Village of Roaix
About
Site et monument historiqueHistorical heritage
Clinging to the side of a hill, the village of Roaix owes its fame to winegrowing.
It was in the 12th century that a Commanderie des Templiers was created. A Commandery in its own right, it had its own chapel and regular house. At "Les Crottes", you can still admire the apse of the Romanesque chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Crottes, now a private building. Nearby was the former Templar house, with vaulted caves dug into the saffron.
