Situated at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, Sablet is an authentic Provencal village with its houses tightly clustered around the church.
A small, round village, the streets and houses spiral around the church like the shell of a snail.

There are no castles in Sablet, as the village was never under the rule of the Papacy. The village did, however, build a fortified wall in the 14th century. In the maze of streets, you'll see stone "soustets" from all eras and pretty facades.

As you turn a corner, you'll come across "Place Yvan Audouard", a journalist, writer and humorist who was a regular visitor to Sablet and the Journée du Livre. It features a fountain and a small wash-house. Follow the "Montée de l'église" to the church of Saint-Nazaire, with its heavy bell tower crowned by a campanile.

At the entrance to the village, on the route de Carpentras, stand two chapels: the chapel of Saint-Roch, one of the village's patrons, and the chapel of Saint-Nazaire, built by the villagers to thank the saint for sparing them from the great plague of 1720.

VILLAGE SECRET
Jean Raspail, the writer, set up the Patagonian consulate here and gave himself the prestigious title of consul of this southern tip of the American continent, an ephemeral and unrecognized kingdom, often nicknamed the "kingdom of fantasy".

Every year in July, Sablet welcomes around a hundred writers to the Journées du livre, co-founded by Jean Raspail. Themed conferences, exhibitions and signing sessions. Come and meet your favorite authors.
